My mom has been getting KnitCrate for somewhere around 2 years. She has always showed what she received every month and said I should try it, but I never did. They sent really beautiful yarns, but I had a difficult time kind of giving up control to let someone else choose what yarn I would get. I knew what I liked and I was leery to try anything new…..until this year. In January, we were in Utah and my mom video called me to show me what she got from KnitCrate that month, as usual. For some reason, something switched in my brain and I really wanted to try something new. Maybe it was the colorway for that month or maybe it was wanting to try something new – grow as a knitter.

My first month was February. My mother is signed up for the Sock Crate, which comes with 1 skein of sock yarn, a freebie every other month, and a pattern booklet which also tells you about the yarn and the dyer for that month, and a pattern designed with the yarn you received. I signed up for both the Sock Crate and the KnitCrate Membership Crate. In the membership crate, you get a freebie every other month, a pattern booklet with 2 patterns and 2 skeins of yarn. I call it the Shawl Membership.

All of my other crates are in storage, except for June. Inside this month’s, I got a fabric covered tape measure (which my 4 year-old is constantly stealing), the pattern booklet and 2 skeins of yarn. They had 2 colorways of the yarn in the Membership Crate and I was hoping for the coral but I really love the purple that I received.

In my Sock Crate, I got the pattern booklet (it’s the same in every box) a skein of sock yarn, which my mom and I absolutely love, and a little storage box in the shape of a macaroon that is perfect for keeping stitch markers.

On the back of the book you receive, is a sneak preview for the following month’s color theme. I LOVE it and can’t wait for the sneak peek that should be coming this week. BUT if the theme doesn’t seem like something that you would love, as of July 2019, they have given you the option to choose which color theme you would prefer. They have Anything Goes, which could be anything; All Natural, which has neutral colors – browns and cream colors; Chill Out, which has cool colors – blues and greens; Energize Me, which has bright colors – reds and yellows and oranges.

I think I will stick with what I’ve been getting, even though I do want to try the other color themes at least once. I have yet to be disappointed with anything they have sent me. They’ve sent me things that I would have never picked out for myself in a LYS or online and that’s the point!
