For almost 2 years, I had been telling my husband that I wanted to learn how to make soap. It was usually a comment made in passing and nothing ever came of it. When we were living in Utah, the house we lived in had this massive basement with a perfect “soap making” room. But, we weren’t there very long, so, again, nothing ever came of it. Then, we moved to South Carolina….
The beginning of this year, I started up on my “I wanna learn how to make soap” stuff again, but this time I was serious. So, my husband bought me a melt-and-pour beginners soap making kit. Our daughter and I made a “mermaid tail” bar and everything went great, until I tried to get too fancy and it just didn’t work out for me and I got frustrated.
When I explained what I was trying to do, my husband said that I would probably need to make the soap from scratch, using lye, which would make it easier to work with as it would not set as quickly. I told him that I had seen ‘Fight Club’ and I was not comfortable using lye. So, he said he wouldn’t mind mixing it and helping me get comfortable using it, etc. and ordered some along with everything else I would need. I wasn’t completely sold, I figured I tried a craft, wasn’t in love with it, and was perfectly happy going back to knitting and making Barbie furniture out of plastic canvas and Barbie food out of polymer clay. But, 2 weeks later, ALL OF THIS SOAP MAKING STUFF SHOWED UP AT THE HOUSE!
I had not seen this man THIS excited about something in a VERY long time. He had spent that whole 2 weeks, waiting for his treasures to be delivered, watching soap making videos on YouTube and reading everything he could on how to do this properly. After he made his 1st batch, he was in love with it. I’d never seen him be this way about anything. We had a very small house in The South and after a month it was FULL of soap! Bars of soap EVERYWHERE! Then, the plague hit…
When COVID-19 really hit in America, as everyone knows, things got real scary, real quick. We had no idea what was going to happen, and during the 2 weeks that he was home (he wasn’t in self-isolation for very long – which is another story) he spent just about that entire time perfecting his new hobby. Then, he lost his job, just like thousands of others.
When that happened, we felt it would be in our best interest to move back to Las Vegas. So, we packed everything up and came home. During the 2 weeks we were in quarantine, this man started doing research. Learning how to make lotion and liquid soap and a lot of other things. Then, he started a company…
COSA Soap. He has spent the last 3 months building this brand and honestly, it really is amazing. I’ve loved being his guinea pig. He has liquid soap, bar soap, SOLID PERFUME, beard oil, and he adds more products all the time. I’ve actually phased out all store bought product and only use the stuff he has made. It’s amazing how he took a situation that could have been devastating to us, and used it as an opportunity to build something wonderful.
